Shape the Future of Governance Intelligence
We are building an institution — not just a company. We are looking for people who want to do the same.
Business Development Manager
Role Overview
Custoris is seeking its first Business Development Manager — a commercially driven leader who can build and execute a growth strategy across all three divisions of the group: Custoris Digital (IGCA SaaS governance platform), Custoris Care (CQC-registered homecare provider, Coventry), and Custoris Academy (CPD-accredited compliance training).
This is a foundational senior hire. You will not inherit a commercial function — you will build it. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will develop pipelines, close partnerships, lead on procurement submissions, and represent Custoris in front of NHS commissioners, local authorities, and care sector buyers.
The role demands credibility in three areas simultaneously: commercial development, technology, and health and social care governance. If you understand how commissioners think, how SaaS scales, and why the CQC Single Assessment Framework matters — this role was designed for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own the commercial growth strategy across all three Custoris divisions, with clear targets and timelines agreed with the CEO
- Identify, target, and close new partnerships with NHS Integrated Care Boards, local authorities, housing associations, and independent care providers
- Build and manage a structured B2B sales pipeline for the IGCA platform, from lead generation through to signed contract
- Establish referral pathways and commissioner relationships to support Custoris Care growth in Coventry and neighbouring areas
- Drive learner enrollment growth for Custoris Academy through employer partnerships, Skills for Care channels, and direct-to-provider engagement
- Represent Custoris at sector conferences, procurement panels, and industry events
- Lead the preparation of tender documents, commercial proposals, and grant applications
- Produce monthly pipeline and market intelligence reports for the CEO and Board
- Identify and develop strategic alliance opportunities that amplify the group's reach and credibility
- Contribute to investor-facing materials and commercial narrative as the group scales
Key Performance Indicators
Minimum 5 new care provider contracts signed within the first 12 months of appointment.
3 or more formal referral pathways established with NHS ICBs or local authority commissioners within 6 months.
100+ learner enrolments from external organisations within the first 12 months.
Qualified pipeline of £500,000+ ARR built within 12 months.
2 or more signed strategic partnership agreements (NHS / ICB / Local Authority) within 12 months.
Lead or co-lead a minimum of 4 procurement and tender submissions per year.
Qualifications
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional qualification — any discipline considered
- Business development, commercial management, or sales qualification desirable (e.g. CIM, ISM)
- Project management qualification (Prince2, APM, or equivalent) advantageous
- Evidence of continuing professional development in health and social care, governance, or technology preferred
- Formal qualification or training in procurement / tender management is a plus
Experience Required
Business Development
- Proven track record in B2B business development, commercial management, or senior sales — preferably in regulated or public-sector adjacent markets
- Demonstrable experience structuring, negotiating, and closing commercial agreements and partnerships
- Experience leading or materially contributing to tender and procurement bids, including framework agreements
- Familiarity with CRM systems and structured pipeline management processes
- Experience identifying and converting complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities with long sales cycles
Technical
- Practical familiarity with SaaS platforms and technology-led products — able to represent a software product confidently to non-technical buyers
- Understanding of data, reporting, and governance platforms in an operational context
- Experience working with, selling into, or procuring technology for NHS, local authority, or social care settings desirable
- Comfortable interpreting product roadmaps, integration requirements, and technical specifications in commercial conversations
- Experience with digital health, care technology, or govtech ecosystems is a material advantage
Health and Social Care Leadership and Governance
- Substantive experience working in, or commercially with, UK health and social care — adult social care experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of CQC regulation and the Single Assessment Framework (SAF), including quality statement requirements and inspection methodology
- Understanding of NHS and local authority commissioning structures, including ICBs, Section 75 agreements, and spot vs. block contract models
- Familiarity with Skills for Care, CPD frameworks, and workforce development commissioning within the sector
- Knowledge of adult social care funding structures, market pressures, and the reform agenda
- Prior experience as a Registered Manager, governance lead, or compliance officer within a care setting is a significant advantage
Personal Attributes
- Entrepreneurial in mindset, structured in execution — able to build from scratch without losing commercial rigour
- Credible across multiple audiences: board-level, commissioner, operational, and technical
- Strong written communicator — able to produce compelling proposals, bids, and commercial narratives independently
- Self-directed and comfortable in ambiguity — this is an early-stage group with high growth potential and genuine complexity
- Mission-driven: committed to raising the standard of UK adult social care governance
- Collaborative and transparent — contributes to a culture of accountability across the group
What We Offer
- Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 base, depending on experience
- Performance-related bonus linked to agreed KPIs
- Equity / share option scheme under consideration for exceptional candidates
- Remote-first with hybrid working — Coventry office available
- Direct access to and genuine influence on group strategy
